Like so many months this year, September has flown by, but its effects have been felt. The month started off fairly warm and still in good shape for biking – which I try to do as much as I can. Now itโs been cold enough I need to wrap myself up in a hoodie indoors and with a coat outdoors.
Unlike the previous month, Iโve been slowly getting out of my super long reading slump. Hopefully this setback doesnโt prevent me from meeting my reading goal this year but we shall see. I feel like Iโm in a good place right now and Iโm not putting too too much pressure on myself to meet it at all costs.
Letโs get into it, shall we?
What did I read this month?

Most surprising: Not all YA authors that transition to adult books do it well, but I was most definitely surprised by how much I fell in love with The Dead Romantics. The genre is slightly different from what Iโm used to from Ashley (mostly sci-fi twists to the romances) but I rather enjoyed the paranormal ghost love interest here.
Fun format: I havenโt read as many different format books lately, but Iโve been getting into graphic novels again when I met Kami Garcia at Fan Expo last month. Teen Titans: Raven was a great start to characters I loved growing up and I canโt wait to see more from this series. The illustrator, Gabriel Picolo, did an amazing job bringing Ravenโs story to life.
Slightly underwhelming: I had higher expectations for Wishtress which unfortunately didnโt quite meet everything I was hoping for. The intention was there but the execution of the adventure for the Well of magical Talents just fell flat. Definitely more character driven than plot driven.
Atmospheric read: Itโs end of September so of course itโs time for slightly spookier reads. Spells for Lost Things is a complete vibe as we explore infamous Salem with our protagonist who may have some witchy ancestry she didnโt know about. Add the super cute romance with a boy who has his own dark clouds but is a cinnamon roll at heart, and tada, you get what I call a cozy paranormal story.
4 Drink Me Potions
- Teen Titans: Raven by Kami Garcia, illustrated by Gabriel Picolo
- The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston (review)
- Spells for Lost Things by Jenna Evans Welch (review)
2.5 Drink Me Potions
- Wishtress by Nadine Brandes (review)
Current reading list

- If You Could See the Sun by Ann Liang
- Teen Titans: Beast Boy by Kami Garcia, illustrated by Gabriel Picolo
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling
- I just watched it in theatre for my boyfriendโs birthday and wow, I loved it so much I canโt even articulate. I wanted to compare it with the screenplay published in the book and Iโm pleasantly surprised and impressed at how actors interpret it into action.
TBR list

- The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
- The Luminaries by Susan Dennard
- The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn
Were some of these titles probably on my TBR list multiple times during this year? Probably. Iโm bound to get to it at some point, right?

How was your September? Did you read as many books as you had wanted? Let me know in the comments below!

I’m happy to hear you’re slowly getting out of your reading slump; here’s to hoping you’ll meet your reading goals! September was actually pretty warm most of the time though while it’s gotten chilly, it’s not exactly hoodie season just yet. (But I’m looking forward to it!)
Hope October is good for you!
