The Guilty Reader Book Tag

Good morning fellow book lovers! I love seeing tags on other blogs but I never have the time to slot one in. But, I told myself, I shall do one this week since it’s literally been months since I last did one and it’s really about darn time.

I saw this at Nehal’s blog earlier this week so please check it out!

1. Have you ever re-gifted a book you’ve been given?

I don’t think so. I generally try not to regift books because books are so personal for me to give a person. I base it on their interests, personalities and what I think they’d like. If I don’t like a book, it goes to donations where hopefully someone will pick it up because they think they’ll like it.

2. Have you ever said you’ve read a book when you haven’t?

Oh gosh. Yes, unfortunately.

Is it weird to say I’ve yet to read a single one of the Harry Potter books? I wasn’t allowed to read them as a kid and then I just never got around to it when I was older.

But because I’m a book blogger, all my friends assume I’ve read them so…that makes for fun conversations.

3. Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?

I’d like to think not, but then again, what if I’ve completely forgotten? And that’s why I never returned it? Hmmmm.

4. Have you ever read a series out of order?

Does Nancy Drew count? Not if the series is chronological. How would we ever understand what’s happening without the info dump that book 1 would be?

5. Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?

Sacrilegious! I would never *gasp*. Or, at least, I’m super tempted to sometimes but I know better than doing so.

Because a) if that person cares to know about the ending of a particular story, they probably would want to read it or know the story. And b) if they don’t care, then they probably wouldn’t have the kinda reaction I’d want and that’s why I want to share with them IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Am I wrong??

6. Have you ever dog-eared a book?

Now this really is sacrilegious. No one borrow my physical books if you do.

7. Have you ever told someone you don’t own a book when you do?

Only if I have somehow forgotten I owned it. Like it’s way back in one of my less accessible bookshelves.

The flip side? I’ve totally told someone I owned a book that turns out…I did not. Why did I think I owned it? Probably wishful thinking that turned into “reality” in my head months later.

8. Have you ever told someone you haven’t read a book when you have?

No. I don’t see why I’d have to lie about it. Am I ashamed of reading it? Then I’d have to ask myself why I read it in the first place and where’s the shame coming from.

9. Have you ever skipped a chapter or a section of a book?

Not huge chunks like a chapter but definitely skimming through really long paragraphs, generally descriptive things about the setting. Is that bad of me?

10. Have you ever bad mouthed a book you actually liked?

No. I will stand by my thoughts but I can definitely appreciate and validate someone else’s opinion on the same book if they didn’t happen to like it. I feel honesty is best here and mutual respect.

And that’s it from me! Did you learn anything surprising about me you didn’t expect?

Please tag yourselves if you want to do these questions yourself. I want to see what your answers are!

  1. I love this book tag and really enjoyed reading your answers. I am an unashamed dog-earer of books, but only with my own! I promise I am much more respectful if I have borrowed a book from a friend.
