Summer 2022 Movies or Shows to Watch

Feeling the heat of things? Has summer vacation started in some way for you and you just want to dive deep into lazy afternoons and fun days without a care?

If you’re like me and totally not travelling this summer, well, the only remedy for a relaxing day is to watch something that fits the mood. That’s right. Let’s talk about summer movies or TV shows you must watch this season!

These days, the popularity of book adaptations to the small screen is truly growing. In the past, YA books that became movies on the big screen may be hit or miss but the success in moving to streaming platforms has shown there’s an appetite for such stories for old fans and new ones alike.

That being said, here are some recent releases that are perfect for the summer, especially if you’re a mood reader/viewer.

Review: Dead Woman Walking by Sharon Bolton

Just before dawn in the hills near the Scottish border, a man murders a young woman. At the same time, a hot-air balloon crashes out of the sky. There’s just one survivor.

She’s seen the killer’s face – but he’s also seen hers. And he won’t rest until he’s eliminated the only witness to his crime.

Alone, scared, trusting no one, she’s running to where she feels safe – but it could be the most dangerous place of all . . .

I had so much trouble placing this one. Even now as I write this up I’m really not sure how to rate it, but I gave it the top of my scale, just to give it the benefit of the doubt. There were so many ups and downs, high points that I loved, low points that I didn’t, and honestly so many things that were both good and bad…I was definitely left confused as to whether I was satisfied with the book or not. Let me explain more below

Dead Woman Walking is about sole survivor of a hot balloon crash, after its riders witness a most grisly murder. The murderer and the sole witness now know each other’s faces, and she knows he’s hunting her down. The problem is, where does she go? Nowhere feels safe, and the killer is always right on her tail.

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Books Releasing in Second Half of 2022

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

I cannot believe it’s already the first week of July. It’s extraordinary how time flies by so fast. On one hand I’m super sad time just moves at such lightning pace when one is having fun, but on the other hand, I’m super excited because….well, my most anticipated books in the rest of the year are that much closer to their release date.

I’m sure some of these (if not most of these) will be on many of your lists, but I’m always happy for a shoutout of your favourites in the comments below! And if there’s a surprising addition you didn’t know about but are now excited for its release too, please put that in the comments too! I love sharing the love of books with you all in the community. We hype one another up and it’s amazing.

P.S. you may notice I’m generally most excited for books that are sequels (or the finale!) of books in a series. I’m a sucker like that.
