Feeling the heat of things? Has summer vacation started in some way for you and you just want to dive deep into lazy afternoons and fun days without a care?
If you’re like me and totally not travelling this summer, well, the only remedy for a relaxing day is to watch something that fits the mood. That’s right. Let’s talk about summer movies or TV shows you must watch this season!
These days, the popularity of book adaptations to the small screen is truly growing. In the past, YA books that became movies on the big screen may be hit or miss but the success in moving to streaming platforms has shown there’s an appetite for such stories for old fans and new ones alike.
That being said, here are some recent releases that are perfect for the summer, especially if you’re a mood reader/viewer.
Along for the Ride (Netflix film)
Based on the book by Sarah Dessen
The summer before college Auden meets the mysterious Eli, a fellow insomniac. While the seaside town of Colby sleeps, the two embark on a nightly quest to help Auden experience the fun, carefree teen life she never knew she wanted (from IMDB).
The Summer I Turned Pretty (Prime series)
Based on the book series by Jenny Han
A love triangle between one girl and two brothers. A story about first love, first heartbreak, and the magic of that one perfect summer (from IMDB).
Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between (Netflix film)
Based on the book by Jennifer E. Smith
After making a pact to break up before college, Claire and Aidan retrace the steps of their relationship on one last epic date, revisiting familiar and unexpected places as they question: stay together or say goodbye forever? (From IMDB)
Love & Gelato (Netflix film)
Based on the book by Jenna Evans Welch
Lina makes a promise to her sick mother that she’ll spend the summer before college in Rome, where she falls for the city, the people – and the “gelato” (from IMDB).
If you watched any of these, let me know what you think! Always happy to discuss book adaptations with you all.
