February 2: Non-Bookish Hobbies

Prompts: Do most of your hobbies center around books? What do you like to do outside of reading & book blogging? Do some of your non-bookish hobbies relate to your reading?

Welcome to another week of LTB here at DTRH, everyone! Today’s topic is ironically non-bookish, as it is all about hobbies other than books! Can’t wait to hear what other interests you all have beyond just our usual community topics. Are your other hobbies also related to books and blogging?

I would actually say most of my hobbies do not centre around books. Reading is a huge hobby and blogging goes right along with it, but I feel like that there are so many other things that I like to do as well. While nice for variety, sometimes my hobbies do pull me in different directions, and that’s where it can be difficult to decide which hobby to put down or to take a break from for a while.

The blog really helps me keep coming back to reading, otherwise it might be lost in the pool of my hobbies (does anyone else have this issue?). As a general theme, I like to do a bunch of arts & crafts-like things as my other hobbies. Painting (watercolour) is my other main hobby, though the set-up of paint always makes it hard to find time for. But I definitely enjoy the peace and quiet of it, and being able to just sit there with my (hopefully) creative thoughts usually puts me in a good place.

I have done a bunch of different kinds of crafts in the past like needle-felting or cross-stitching, and I would like to return to those one day if possible (so many different materials for all kinds of crafts!). But recently I have been doing some paper crafts, which has been quite fun too. The pattern here is…don’t take me outside, I’m really much more of an indoor cat.

Of course, I also enjoy watching different TV shows or series, but I wouldn’t put this high up on the priority list, as I tend not to follow most shows too closely, and often give up watching easily. I guess this hobby could possibly be related to reading, as many many books are being turned into motion pictures nowadays. In most cases though, I find that I enjoy the book version more than the movie, and I really only watch the movie just as a comparison (most often disappointing).

How about you all? What other hobbies beyond books do you have? Or do bookish-things take over your entire life (also amazing!)? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I wish id be more like you!
On the contrary, I always gravitate around reading & gaming. Literally NOTHING else 😅 there’s so many things I could do… and yet no, if i’m not working or doing everyday tasks, i’ll be gaming 🤷🏽‍♀️

      1. Yeah, and imean it does have a few perks like helping with observation and other skills.
I play mainly switch or Sims 4 – right now back to obsessing with the latest zelda that got out last year

  2. Great post! I’m always a little envious of people who have lots of hobbies because while I do like to try new things, my brain always gets in the way and I end up coming back to the three that I always do: reading, blogging and gaming. 😂 Whenever I try something new like painting by numbers or diamond painting my brain will go “but what will you do with the finished product? it’s just gonna accumulate in your junk pile” and then I go back to not trying anything new, lol. I am toying with going back to colouring books this year though cos it’s nice to do while listening to audiobooks!
