Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
I think I default to boarding school locations whenever we have a location freebie, but it’s really because I was super jealous of the “boarding school experience” growing up which seemed to make school a lot more fun – like a whole new adventure.
Now that I am older, there is a joke that goes around why there are a lot of books in YA set in boarding schools. Because it is so much easier to write teenagers when they do not have to interact with their parents, who are notably harder to write about realistically.
So here is a list of YA books set in YA that I have either read or plan on reading (somewhere in the foreseeable future).

1. Don’t Breathe a Word by Jordyn Taylor ( Review | Goodreads )
2. This May End Badly by Samantha Markum ( Goodreads )
3. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead ( Review | Goodreads )
4. Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce ( Review | Goodreads )

5. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins ( Review | Goodreads )
6. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro ( Review | Goodreads )
7. Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson ( Review | Goodreads )

8. Ghosted by Amanda Quain ( Goodreads )
9. Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhionelle Clayton ( Goodreads )
10. They Wish They Were Us by Jessica Goodman ( Goodreads )

What do you think? Do you enjoy a good boarding school setting? If you read YA, do you agree with the joke about writing parents? Let me know in the comments below!

You and I had such different responses to boarding schools in books. I liked reading about them but thought it would be dreadful to actually attend one. I wanted to stay home with my parents and enjoy peace and quiet. LOL.

Lol that is very true. I suppose it’s always the grass is greener on the other side. I’m sure I’d be tired of the incessant noise and activity after the novelty wore off too.

Totally true. Teens can’t run around getting into trouble, monster hunting, solving murder mysteries, etc. when they have their annoying, protective parents around. They have to be at a boarding school to do that! LOL. The Harry Potter series is probably my favorite in this genre. I also love Maureen Johnson’s series that are set in boarding schools: Truly Devious and the Shades of London. Great list!
Happy TTT!
