Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Paranormal Books

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Hey everyone, thank you to all those who sent well wishes on last week‘s TTT. I’m still in the process of fully recovering but getting better day by day.

This week’s topic is a freebie, and in the spirit of October, I chose to showcase my favourite paranormal books or series.

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo is my absolutely favorite dark academia book with mystery and plenty of intriguing paranormal worldbuilding. I can’t wait for its sequel next year (finally!)

Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert features a dynamic mother-daughter relationship and a rather creepy stranger who may be stalking them all. I loved the vibes, even though I read it in the summer, buts it’s perfect for this time of year.

The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh does gothic vampires best in the beautiful, historic city of New Orleans. Culture, allure, and of course, the dangerous creatures at night make this one scary (but sexy) book

The Secret Circle series by L.J. Smith was my teenage self’s favourite books on witches. It’s has everything that’s great about YA, including love triangles and danger only teens can solve apparently

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston was the perfect blend of romantic angst with a protagonist catching feelings for the ghost she can see and the dealings of grief at the loss of her father. It’s romantic (with a deadly twist) but also the kind of contemporary that makes your heart swell with all the emotions

The Mediator series by Meg Cabot is basically the older, YA version of falling for the ghost boy. It’s equal parts snarky (gotta love a snarky protagonist) and full of paranormal mysteries to solve

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco features an interesting amount of Sicilian food (don’t read while hungry) but also the bad boy trope we all love to see. Someone’s killing witches, and our MC does not want to be next

Night World Series by L.J. Smith is hands down my favourite comfort reads about vampires, werewolves, witches, etc. Each book has a wonderful cast of characters and plot that all tie into one fabulous hidden world within our own. Plus, the romances are top notch angst

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead brings two things I love together: kickass heroines and an interesting boarding school for vampires. The action and characters go so well together, I can easily gobble one book in an afternoon. Same goes for Mead’s Bloodlines series set in the same world. Hands down a great series on vampires existing alongside our world

Are you into any of these books/series? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Glad to hear you’re feeling better by the day! I’ve heard lots of good things about The Dead Romantics and I’ve also still got Ninth House and The Beautiful on my TBR and I’m keen to check all of these out (hopefully) soon. 😃
