Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Good morning my friends! How has it been for you since our last TTT? I’ve been having such a hectic week with work and it’s only going to get busy this week as well. But I always try to make time for book talk so here’s to celebrating and reminiscing with this week’s topic!
What books would you wish you could read again like it was for the first time?
- The Host by Stephenie Meyer
- A wonderfully romantic, post-apocalyptic choice that makes you ponder: what makes someone human? And some of the best characterization I’ve seen in all my reading.
- Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
- Nostalgia to the max! I grew up on this classic Canadian gem following a sweet red-headed girl that inspired the CBC series “Anne with an E”
- Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
- Uniquely written in a mix of chats, surveillance tape descriptions and drawings/journal entries, this sci-fi space epic was a hit for a reason!
- Love, Life and the List by Kasie West
- Not normally a fan of contemporaries to this level, this best friends to lovers story hit me in all the feels as the lead couple finds their way to love.
- Night World Vol. 3 by L.J. Smith
- All 3 stories, intermeshed to tell one big story about powerful teenagers to fight the end of the world, were the highlight of my early teen years that still stick to me today.
- Caraval by Stephanie Garber
- The magic of Caraval hits two sisters as they play the game and find themselves sucked personally into it when one sister becomes disappears. I would love to experience Caraval like it’s the first time if I could!
- Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
- A girl gets a second chance at life when accepting the role of royal poison tester, and finding love most unexpectedly with the king’s assassin. What a wild ride this was.
- Graceling by Kristin Cashore
- Considered a gem even after all these years, I would love to re-experience the journey of a girl with power in a kingdom that fears those who are different. This is the OG story that sparked more high fantasies like it.
- Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
- As a high school girl with a day off, cuddling up with this historical beauty of Shadowhunter lore and a love triangle that propelled me forward, this was Cassandra Clare at her best.
- The Rose Code by Kate Quinn
- A historical story about women spies in WWII split into 3 POVs? Yes, yes, and yes. Suspenseful, brilliantly crafted and twists that I couldn’t see coming, who ever thinks history is boring didn’t pick this one up.
All these books are 5-star reads to me and I have so many great memories from the time periods in my life I read these. Whether they were from a decade ago (oh my – how has it been THAT long already?) or just a few months ago, these books mark parts of my life and exist in memories intertwined with those milestones. These are books I own, books I easily share and recommend with others, and books I would love to be able to enjoy with new eyes once again.

Thanks Lydia. I read books 1-6 as a kid. #7-8 were more on Anne’s children and at my young age, it felt weird to read about Anne all grown up and having adult kids

Ooh, Graceling made my list this week but for the reason that I rated it 5-star but I can remember nothing about it—so if I re-read it, it’d probably be like reading it for the first time 😂 Illuminae would be so great to read for the first time again but it’s also a great re-read (especially with the audiobook)! Great picks 🙂

Thanks! Haha yeah Graceling seems to be that staple that so many have read when it first came out but it may have been a while now 😂 glad you enjoyed those books too! Was Illuminae great as audiobook? I wondered how they “read” all the messaging conversations and such

I recently reread all of The Infernal Devices and it was so nice to revisit Clockwork Angel, there were so many things I didn’t remember since its been AGES since I first read it, but I agree, nothing beats reading a story for the first time. I’m also planning to reread Caraval very soon since its been a while and I can’t wait to see how I feel about a reread of such a wonderful book!

Would love to hear your thoughts on a reread of Caraval! I haven’t done that yet either, but my most significant memory of reading it was sitting at my doctor’s office 😂 I hope that memory isn’t attached to Caraval forever

LOL! Oh wow, you know, I have some random strong memories like that attached to certain books too, its so weird! I’ll have to make a blog post and share my reread review/thoughts on Caraval, hoping to read it in early September! 🙂

I think that’s exactly what happened! I liked Twilight which is actually why I read this but I thought it was way better!
