Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Hey friends! Itโs actually Halloween today that TTT lands on and what a better time to do a freebie list on scary books, right?
Apparently not for this girl because I donโt love horror books much. So bear with me as I list out a number of โcozierโ books for this spooky season that may just perhaps be something youโre in the mood for in case youโve depleted your horror books on the TBR – or youโre like me and not ashamed to admit that you need to read horrors in broad daylight only.
Sometimes, the worst day of your life happens, and you have to figure out how to live after it.
So Clementine forms a plan to keep her heart safe: stay busy, work hard, find someone decent to love, and try to remember to chase the moon. The last one is silly and obviously metaphorical, but her aunt always told her that you needed at least one big dream to keep going. And for the last year, that plan has gone off without a hitch. Mostly. The love part is hard because she doesnโt want to get too close to anyoneโshe isnโt sure her heart can take it.
And then she finds a strange man standing in the kitchen of her late auntโs apartment. A man with kind eyes and a Southern drawl and a taste for lemon pies. The kind of man that, before it all, she wouldโve fallen head-over-heels for. And she might again.
Except, he exists in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact. And she, quite literally, lives seven years in his future.
Her aunt always said the apartment was a pinch in time, a place where moments blended together like watercolors. And Clementine knows that if she lets her heart fall, sheโll be doomed.
After all, love is never a matter of timeโbut a matter of timing.
Overall Recommendation:
A beautiful story about an apartment that slips through time when the people visiting are at crossroads in life, The Seven Year Slip continues to show how Ashley Poston shines in this genre. While setting up the story took a little time, once Iwan and Clementine met in this apartment, the tale of heartbreak, grief and love across time really took off. I loved how all of these topics were dealt with and came to love the protagonists and their journey so much! A definite must read if you loved Ashleyโs previous works.

October 27:Books That Give You Nightmares
Prompts: Have you ever had a nightmare about a book you read? Do you try to avoid scary books? Or do you really enjoy reading them? What are your favorite and least favorite scary books?
Welcome to another week of LTB here at DTRH, everyone! Today’s topic is about books that give you nightmares, and luckily I don’t think I experience too many because of books. It’s a reasonable fear though, has anyone not ever experienced one?
I think I had a nightmare long ago from a Goosebumps book back when I was much younger. Classic, I know. I think it was Welcome to the Dead House, if I’m not mistaken, and I started dreaming about being in a haunted house with disembodied heads, etc., etc. Needless to say that was a little bit too much for me at the time. Not really sure how that led me to continue to like reading mysteries and thrillers now anyway.
