Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Characters

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

I really like this weekโ€™s topic because itโ€™s almost like looking in a mirror reading a book about bookish characters. Whether the protagonist is an avid reader, librarian, book seller or writer, thereโ€™s just something so relatable about it because itโ€™s most likely what we are doing as well.

But as I was trying to come up with a list of books with bookish characters, I realized I donโ€™t read many books that actually have such individuals in them. So Iโ€™m excited to read all of your other lists this week! But in the meantime, here are the few I could come up with, grouped by bookish character type.

Booksellers

  • Last Chance Books by Kelsey Rodkey
  • Recommended for You by Laura Silverman
  • Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley

Librarians

  • The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles

Readers

  • Being Mary Bennet by JC Peterson
  • Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch
  • Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston
  • Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Writers

  • Sense and Second-Degree Murder by Tirzah Price
  • The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

Let me know if any of these books are on your radar! Iโ€™ve read half of these and the rest are on my TBR, but Iโ€™m intrigued by it all.

Until next week!

Top Ten Tuesday: One Word Reviews for the Last Ten Books

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Today’s TTT is an interesting one. If you’ve been around for a while, you know I tend to go on when I’m writing a review. It’s definitely why I include an Overall Recommendation section on each review for those who obviously would prefer the cliffnotes version of my thoughts.

So to summarize the last 10 books I’ve read in 1 word? That’s a huge feat.

But I shall attempt to do so nonetheless. If I wrote up a review for this book already, I will also link to it for your comparison (or if the one word piqued your interest enough to take a deeper dive).

Let’s start from the last book I’ve read and move on backwards.

1. The Song That Moves the Sun by Anna Bright

Top Ten Tuesday: Books with Flowers or Grass on the Cover

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

It’s almost May and some days, it almost feels like it where I live. My seasonal allergies are also telling me it’s spring and it’s driving me crazy. Living on anti-histamines for the next while. If that’s you as well, give me a shout in the comments below. We can commiserate together.

For this season and reason, I chose to make this week’s TTT topic featuring grass or flowers on the cover. These books remind me of spring and gets me in the mood for relaxing days ahead as summer approaches around the corner.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these or are interested in picking it up!

1. Maybe This Time by Kasie West

One year. Nine events. Nine chances to . . . fall in love?

Weddings. Funerals. Barbecues. New Year’s Eve parties. Name the occasion, and Sophie Evans will be there. Well, she has to be there. Sophie works for the local florist, so she can be found at every big event in her small hometown, arranging bouquets and managing family dramas.

Enter Andrew Hart. The son of the fancy new chef in town, Andrew is suddenly required to attend all the same events as Sophie. Entitled, arrogant, preppy Andrew. Sophie just wants to get her job done and finish up her sketches so she can apply to design school. But every time she turns around, there is Andrew, getting in her way and making her life more complicated. Until one day she wonders if maybe complicated isn’t so bad after all . . .

Told over the course of one year and following Sophie from event to event, this delightful novel from master of romantic comedy Kasie West shows how love can blossom in unexpected places.
