Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I Haven’t Read But Want To

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Like it is with TBRs, there is a never-ending line of authors I want to read and get to know but for some reason just never got around to doing that. It really has nothing to do with them personally. I’m such a mood reader that it makes it hard to pick up some genre of books when I’m not particularly up for it. Plus, I borrow so many books or get them from publishers that I’m “forced” to read those kinds of books over ones that don’t have such a time requirement to them.

So here is my list of authors with at least 1+ books I wanted to read but just haven’t yet.

Huntley Fitzpatrick

First and foremost, I wanted to highlight Huntley’s works. I regret not having fully read through one of her novels although I distinctly remember going as far as borrowing one of her books for a solid month back in the early 2010s. I am saddened by her recent passing but I know she leaves behind parts of herself in the books she wrote.

Jordan Ifueko

I’ve heard so many good things about Raybearer from other bloggers. I really need to pick this series up! I think it’s a duology so that makes me even more inclined to binge read it in one go.

Tracy Deonn

I was first introduced to Tracy Deonn when she presented Victoria Aveyard’s latest novel for a virtual book tour stop. I remember hearing bits about her debut and it sounded sooo intriguing. I immediately added it to my TBR but I just never got to it. I know, no excuse. I want to get to Legendborn before its sequel comes out this year.

Heather Buchta

While not the most popular author, I am particularly curious because Heather writes YA with roots tying to her own personal faith with Jesus. I know some people would immediately be wary of it but I am very optimistic about how she incorporates it, and have heard early reviews that she ties in faith pretty well even if you don’t believe what she does.

Traci Chee

This series! I loved the concept of The Reader and definitely borrowed it from the library before but I just wasn’t in the right mood for it before I had to return the book. I swear I will return to this one day. Just look at these SPECTACULAR covers!

Axie Oh

I own both books by Axie but as is often the case, the books I own get the very last priority to be read. I know both have been greatly received and beloved by YA audiences so I’m excited to make time this year hopefully.

Mary Weber

Mary’s books have been on my radar whenever they come out but they’re not as easy to find among the book resources I use. I will get to them, especially To Best the Boys, I promise.

Ruta Sepetys

I’m a sucker for good historical fictions and Ruta’s been praised for The Fountains of Silence since it came out. Her most recent release has also been on my radar. I just really need to find time!

Hafsah Faizal

I actually had the ARC for We Hunt the Flame but unfortunately I struggled with mood reading it at a time when I wasn’t feeling fantasy so much. I wanted to go back to it when I was ready. Clearly that time should have come by now. Someone please keep me accountable!

Tahereh Mafi

I have no idea why I never picked up one of Tahereh Mafi’s novels. The Shatter Me series has been so popular, especially with additional books released after a short break. There’s something wrong with me, right?

Sabaa Tahir

She’s an incredible author in all regards – or so I’ve heard because I’m one of those dumb people who have yet to read Sabaa Tahir’s books. I mean, I tried picking up An Ember in the Ashes way back when but as mentioned above, there was a time fantasy just was too much for me with their lengthy page counts and sometimes confusingly complex world building. I need help, friends.

Are you surprised how many of them are fairly popular names that many people have read? Of course, there are some less well known authors I want to be introduced to.

How many of these authors and/or books have you read? Any offerings to keep me accountable for some of these authors?

  1. Oooooh so many great authors in here! Ruta is definitely one to go for. I adore her works of hidden history and stories that don’t often get told. Axie Oh is on my list too, and definitely adding Traci Chee! The cover and names themselves have me convinced I’ll like that story with that aesthetic. 🥰

    1. Thank you! I definitely need to move Ruta up in my TBR hierarchy. I love good histories told in a fascinating way.
      The covers ARE gorgeous! I hope the fantasy world inside is just as fabulous. Glad Traci’s books piqued your interest 😊

  3. Raybearer and Legendborn are high up on my TBR too, I need to just take the plunge and read them!

    I started the audiobook of We Hunt The Flame ages ago but didn’t like narrator so I put it down, but I own a hardcover copy so I want to try and pick it up again too when I’m in the right mood.

  4. Great list! I finally picked up We Hunt the Flame last month and I loved it. I had Jordan Ifueko on my list today as well but almost all of the other authors listed here are also on my TBR and I can’t wait to read their books too. I hope you enjoy them all 😊

  7. I love your picks! I’ve always wanted to read a Huntley Fitzpatrick book (I guess I’m just kinda intimidated because there are so many of them lol).   9. I’ve really enjoyed Ruta Sepetys’ books, but I’ve not actually read either of the books on your list! The Fountains of Silence was the one book of hers that I couldn’t get into, hopefully it will work better for you. I Must Betray You doesn’t come out for another few months in the UK, but I’m really excited for it when it does come out. The ones I’ve read and enjoyed were Between Shades of Gray (highly recommend) and Salt To The Sea (also recommend).

  10. raybearer is truly so phenomenal! i’ve heard iffy things about the sequel, though, so i feel like i should never finish the series and preserve my love for the first book 😭 i also need to read axie oh! all of her books sound so interesting to me, honestly, i think they all seem like a lot of fun ❤ hope you get to read these authors soon!

    1. Oh that’s good to know. I’ll have to adjust my expectations accordingly. I hate it when the sequels don’t live up to the amazingness of the first book. Which happens more often than I’d like. I hope you’ll enjoy Axie’s books! Both her contemporary and fantasy sound so good

  11. all of sabaa tahir’s books are EVERYTHING omg!! and legendborn is incredible. and so are all of axie oh’s books are amazing as well. haha i totally get reading books you own last, i do the same thing🤣 great post! i hope you can get to all of these soon!💜

  12. You have some great authors here! I’ve never read Huntley Fitzpatrick either, and I have My Life Next Door waiting on my shelf. I’ve read two books by Septys (Between Shades of Gray and Out of the Easy). I enjoyed them both! And I finally read An Ember in the Ashes last year. I highly recommend it. I’ve already picked up the second book to read soon. I also really enjoyed the excerpt of All My Rage I read recently. I hope you get to some of these soon!
